Metal Earth: AT-AT - WIP 2

Reps is the way to go

The next part according to the instruction sheet are the legs:

The instructions do look simple but in truth, they are a bit more complicated and requires you to think before you bend. After removing all the required the parts from the runner and assembling them, this is how the completed leg will look like.

There is an interesting text at the bottom or the base plate:

After completing one leg, I have to 3 more set for the legs. The second leg has an additional part to assemble. After you assemble the second leg, the instruction shows 2nos cylinder piece to bend and assemble. This is another hard part because the cylinder is small. As usual, I used the handle of the plier to slowly bend to the required shape and size.

The cylinders cannot be seen if it is viewed from another side because it is located in between the legs and they cannot be seen once all the legs are assembled to the base plate.

The third leg installation is the same as the other two. Once you know where and how to bend the legs, this is just a walk in the park.

Once again after the third leg has finished assembling, it is connected to the base plate. After that just repeat the same process for the forth and final leg.

Instructions for the fourth leg

Completed fourth leg

When it has been completed, all you have to do is attach it to the base plate like what you did for the previous 3 legs. Here is a shot of the almost completed bottom half of the AT-AT. The AT-AT is able to stand with all the four legs attached.

There are lots of parts sticking out at the top of the base plate. This is okay because they will be covered up by the main body which will be covered in the next posting.

The next part to tackle will be the minor details at the back of the AT-AT. According the diagram no. 4 on the instruction sheet, there are 2 pieces which will be attached to the back.

Instruction for the 2 small pieces to assemble at the back

The first piece to attach is easy. The hard part comes when you are trying to attach the second piece. To make matters worse, the part is small and you have to accurately bend the pieces so that the tabs can be inserted into the holes with ease. Not only that, you will have the first part partially blocking the view of the holes. After a few tries and frustrations later, this is the result.

Sorry for the underexposed pictures. I thought the light from the window was bright enough but I was wrong. To save you from the stress I went through, I would suggest installing the bottom part piece first. This should make things easier to assemble.

With all the repetitions and stress I've gone through to get to here, I will call it a day and take a rest. The next part will be the body and the completion of the entire model.
