Updates (22)

Another half to go

My how time flies. Half the year has gone by. This will be a simple update post as life got in the way of completing the review of Grimshell. I will try to find time to complete the second post of Grimshell.

The main reason for this post is to give an update regarding the Nikon Vignette which was mentioned ages ago. Was suppose to link the video right after I got the green light from Nikon but it must have slipped my mind. Anyways, below is the video link to of the vignette:

Updates (21)

 A complete circle

Before starting this post, I would like to apologise for not updating this blog regularly. I have completed the Decool Bat-Tank but did not have the time to complete the WIP post. There are a lot of things which are happening. First off I will be finally taking the diving course which I have paid for since last year. This will be happening at the end of April. To top it off, there will be the audit which I have to pass which will be happening in May.

In the meantime, here are a few things which has happened in the long absence from the blog. First on the list are the Egg Attack posable figures from KidsLogic/Beast Kingdom. Originally I wanted the Darth Vader but since the shop has a buy-one-and-get-the-2nd-at-50%-off deal, I got the Stormtrooper with it.

One collection complete, more to go

Greetings all. I would like to wish all the readers out there a Happy New Year. The resolution I made for the new year is to complete as many models/kits as I can in the year and trying to get the Lego UCS R2-D2 and Slave 1.

There are a few updates which happened during my absence from the blog. Firstly, I have finally acquired all the PG sets. Not all are original but a complete collection is still a complete collection. Secondly, I was in a video vignette with Nikon over the weekends. It was a fun and new experience. Thirdly, I managed get my hands on the Decool UCS Batmobile. Saw it hanging in a local bookshop and I knew if I didn't get it, there won't be another chance.

I have also taken a few photos of some of my collections which was not reviewed in this blog:

A little update and loot

A little update since there are no updates recently. Mentioned in a post in March, I had 4 things I plan to do this year. I have completed 2 1/2 out of 4. Why is there a 1/2 and which did I complete? Let's start with what I have completed first.

Remember the 2 conditions which I need to fulfill in order to get a promotion?

i) Passing the audit - Done
I recently had the audit from 27 August - 30 August. It was my first time handling the audit but luckily it turned out okay. The passing mark was 80% with no more than 5 major findings. I got above 80% and 5 major findings. Barely scrape through but a pass is a pass.

Some unexpected find

Recently went to one of the shopping malls on my little island and decided to pop into a bookshop just to check out the magazines and some books. After checking the books, went to the graphic comics section to see if there are any interesting comics to get.

After scanning the shelves, this caught my eye:

A complete set of the Death of Superman.

A little update on what's happening in my life

Hello everyone and I apologise for not updating this blog regularly. Mentioned in this post, this year will be a very busy year for me, I have completed my training in Thailand and a week after that the SHO course started. That was in the beginning of May.

In the middle of May, my mum had to go overseas for a month thus I was left with taking care of her pets for an entire month. I had to get up an hour earlier to go over to her place before going to work and going over there again after work before going back home to do my own chores. All I can say is that I'm glad it is over and it was the longest month in my life. Time really seem to pass at an extremely slow pace.

I'm delaying the diving course until after the SHO which would be after August. The new workplace is good but there are lots of things to do before audit. The best new I've had since transferring is that  my audit has been postponed to July. This gives me some extra time to prepare.

All was fine until after Chinese New Year. This is where some of the things which I wanted to do or in planning stage became a reality. Let's take a look on what I have on my plate for this year:

There's an egg in my backlog?

If you are wondering why I'm talking about Easter so early, I can assure you that I am not. I saw this model kit a few years back but it did not spark any interest in me until recently. I woke up one day and was curious to know how it looks like and how much work must be done to get it to look decent.

I did a few research online and found out that this kit was in the market for a very long time but it seems no modellers was interested in it until recently. There are a lot of different models which has this look and it is mainly aircraft or spacecraft.

What model kit am I referring to? Let me present to you....

Blast from the past III

Wooden gun

I recently had a discussion with the missus about childhood toys. There was this one toy which I remembered having and love playing with it. It is made out of wood and it shoots rubber bands. If you are one of those lucky 80's kids, you will surely know what toy I'm talking about.

There are a lot more kits to be built this year and I hope I have more time to work on them. So do continue to pop by this blog once awhile or subscribe and follow to be notified for any new post.

Also if there are any suggestions on how to improve or what I should include or exclude or anything you have in your mind, do leave a comment. Once again I would like to wish all a Happy New Year and may this year be better than the last.

Updates (12)

Tis the season to be jolly !!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers a very merry Christmas. If you are reading this on Christmas Day, I would like to make a suggestion. Instead of  spending your time sitting in front of a computer, call friends or loved ones out and just spend some quality time with them.

If you are away from home, just give them a call just to say: "Hi and Merry Christmas !!". A wise person once told me Christmas will always be there but the company you are with will change. The company you mix with this year might not be there again the next. Things change, people change and definitely relationships change too so take this time to spend some quality time with them.

Blast from the past II

Nintendo games

A recent in Facebook by a friend, Tiger.Lim, made me think back to the good old days when I was young(er). It was a time way before Playstation, X Box and WII existed. It was even a time before GameBoy and Sega Game Gear. I'm talking about the early 1980's where one of the first handheld games was ever created. Here's a useful link on the chronological dates of when handheld games was created.

The hype for Star Wars Episode 7 is everywhere. You cannot go anywhere without someone talking about it or look at Facebook without a post on Star Wars. I know the fans are either buying or have already bought the tickets and are eagerly waiting for the 17th. I have bought my tickets and I too am eagerly waiting for the date to come.

I will dedicate this post to all Star Wars fans. I got some Star Wars stuff from the net and just want to share with the fans out there. Hope you enjoy it and May the Force be with You.

An unexpected purchase

This really is an unexpected purchase. I saw this kit in the online store and also saw it on the shelf in the shop a few times but it did not catch my eye until recently. I'm not sure how or when this kit crept into my mind and stayed there nudging me to get it.

As usual, before I decide to get any kits, I will try to do as much research as possible about the particular kit of interest. I found a lot of interesting things about this kit. 1) It has a slight pearl coating on the white armors, 2) The teeth and claws are gold plated, 3) Cool looking attack booster/back pack  and last of all 4) Lots of decals.

There are also drawbacks to this kit. 1) Loose joints, 2) lack of poseability, 3) expensive, 4) breaks apart when trying to pose. After considering the pros and cons about this kit, as they say, the rest is history. What kit did I get? This is the kit...

Updates (7)

New stock, new loot and some truth

Recently the stock came for two kits which was in my wishlist. There was limited stock for both kits but I was a bit strapped for cash so I just enquired about the price and availability for both kits. The owner mentioned that one of the kits only has 2 sets and one set was picked up earlier in the day. I then asked which branch has the other kit left and went about my day waiting for his reply.

Later I got a reply and he mentioned there is still one kit left at the branch in town and he told his staff to reserve it for me together with the other kit in my wish list. Curious to know what was in my wishlist which I managed to get my hands on?

Updates (6)

New stock, new stock

Went over to Borders today to enquire and order some books. The first thing I did was to look for the metal puzzle section. I went to the previous location and could not find any of it. I thought they might have either sold out all the models or they have returned the unsold kits to the supplier. After walking and looking at some board games, I saw the metal kits display.

I looked through the Star Wars model kit and saw the usual kit which is still available from my last visit: Destroyer droid, X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Then I saw 2 other kits which was new. The R2-D2 and Millennium Falcon.

 Stickers be gone!!

You know that with any items bought from shops, there will be those pesky price tags or labels on them? Have you tried removing them by just slowly peeling them off and hoping that they do not tear and leave some sticky residue behind? I know I have tried doing that for years. Sometimes when I'm lucky, they come off nice and clean. Most of the time they will leave some glue behind and I will use something to rub on it until it comes completely off.

Recently I was curious to know if there are any methods to safely remove them without damaging the box or package. I asked around and did a quick research and managed to find 2 methods which works and they are all inexpensive and readily available in the house.

An unexpected purchase

Heard of Metal kit before? I first heard about it a few moons ago when GN Particles posted his WIP of the RX 78-2. From what I know, there were limited RX 78-2 and Zaku II metal kits produced at the time. From that day onwards, I've been seeing a lot of small kiosk in shopping malls selling the metal kits but they are mainly of iconic landmarks. My search for the Gundam and Zaku II metal kits are still on-going.

Went to Borders a couple of months ago and to my surprise, they have some Star Wars kit on sale but what was in stock was the AT-AT and destroyer droid. Those did not catch my interest so I didn't get it. 2 things can happen from here on: 1) Hope they will restock it with other kits and 2) this is their only stock and when it is sold out, it is sold out.

To my surprise when I went to Boarders today, they have replenished the kits with a new stock. I took a quick scan through the piles and saw some new and interesting kits which caught my attention. They were also limited kits so if I pass this opportunity again, I would be kicking myself. Therefore I applied the saying mentioned in the previous post: "When in doubt, buy".
