Blokees Transformers Galaxy Version Wave 2 - Grimlock Review

 Is This Legit?

An interruption from your daily program of the SD RX-78-2 which was already an intermission build from the HMM Z-Knight. Came across a box full of Transformers blind boxes while at a convenience store, 99 Speedmart. Was wondering if it was legit as they do bring in some bootleg toys to sell them at a lower price.

Did a quick scan on the box and they have a nice holographic packaging which caught my attention. There are 10 different characters and since this is a blind box will get the first one I touch and see what has lady luck installed for me. I am literally going in blind with this purchase as I have no idea what it is.

[Packaging]

Box art

The bottom of the box has the official Hasbro logo so this is legit

Seems like there are 2 packages in the box

[Contents]

Contents of the product. There is an instruction sheet and 2 sealed packages

The instructions are very generic except for the weapons and Grimlock in T-Rex mode

Opening the smaller sealed package first. Consist of a stand, joints and hands. Seems like this will be a semi-model kit

Opening the larger bag and judging by the colors, can roughly guess which character I got. Was hoping to see more red and white but I am happy with this as well

[Build process]

All the pieces for Grimlock in robot mode

The first step is to assemble the inner frame and build the armor pieces on top of it like gunpla. The arms are the easiest to assemble. Had some issue with the leg as there were no clear instructions on the pieces so had to do a guessing game.

Final result for the inner frame pieces

Attaching the parts to the inner frame is quick and easy. Surprisingly it has a lot of joints which makes it very poseable.

The arms can move up and up

Able to do the YMCA dance moves...

...and kneel to offer his loyalty to Optimus Prime as its supreme leader

All the armor pieces for Grimlock

The head piece consists of 3 different pieces. Sandwich the blue between the black pieces and you have the head

The blue for the eyes is very captivating

First complete Grimlock then the T-rex hands which attaches to the back

The T-Rex hands and arms have their individual ball joint which can be moved independently

Easter egg: The hands can close and form the body of dinosaur mode Grimlock

Attach the back and completed Gimlock in robot mode. The pack comes with a small medallion with an image of Grimlock

[Action Poses]

Did not have ample time to pose the figure as I had another task to attend to so the limited action poses for all the kit.

To conclude this review, below is a list of all the pros and cons and the conclusion of what I think about the Blokees Transformers according to my personal experience.

Conclusions:

This is something new which I came across by luck. Did not expect it to be a model kit but glad that it comes with all the color separation. Another thing which was unexpected of the kit which was an inner frame and to build the armor on top of it. This makes the model kit a lot more flexibility.

The model kit has a lot of moving joints which makes it have a very high playability and action poses (which is not one of my strong suit). Was surprised that the T-Rex backpack could close and become the chest of the T-Rex. It was a nice easter egg to have.

This is wave 2 so wave 1 should have all the heavy hitters like Optimus Prime, Megatron, 2 of the 3 seekers (SkyWarp and Thundercracker), Prowl, etc. Would be nice to get a set of the 3 original seekers but it would all depend on luck unless I get the entire box.

Pros:

+ High playability
+ Comes with a character token
+ Good introduction to model kits
+ Has an inner frame

Cons:

- Instructions are a bit unclear
- Some pieces require strength to put together
