A Bad Start For The Build
After separating the parts in previous post, proceeded with nub marks removal which took longer than expected. After that has been done started with brush painting process with the white part. After looking through my paint collection from 8 years ago, this is the only white paint I got in my collection
Mr.Base White 1000
As the paint has been sitting there for years, the content dried up and was a bit rubbery. Figured it would still be usable and went to look for the thinner. It did not hit me that I have taken the wrong thinner. The paint did start to thin like it should have and noticed the mistake when I started painting with it.
'This is not the thinner you are looking for'
Paint started to clump up and couldn't get a smooth finishing
This was the only piece which has a smooth finish to it
By the time I realized my mistake, it was a little too late. I had to figure out a way to remove the paint without damaging the parts. I tried using lighter fluid thinking it might help but it didn't as I didn't know that Mr.Base White 1000 was lacquer finish.
Next course of action was to try the levelling thinner. If this doesn't work then will have to build the kit with the white crappy paintjob.
This is the last resort
Luckily the thinner works and had to spend a few hours cleaning off the paintjob with cotton swab soaked with thinner. Can't imagine how relive I was when it worked. Finally
The number of cotton swabs used to remove the paints
After removing the previous paintjob, I opted for a rattle can for the white parts as I was still trying to figure out how to resolve the Mr. Base White issue.
Nippon Paint Pylox white color rattle can to the rescue
After the paint has dried, I coated the parts with Pledge Future Floor Finish. When I first bought it it was clear and now the white has a slight yellowish tint to it but it doesn't affect the overall color
Parts waiting for the Pledge to dry before keeping them back in their respective boxes. These are the white parts for both left and right side of the leg
Next post will be trying my hand out with brush painting of the red and inner frame parts of the kit. Hope it all goes well and there are no more major surprises along the way.
