D-Style Gustav - WIP 5

D-style pilots?

In the last post, all the painting work for the Gustav has been completed. All that is left to do is spraying a layer of matte finish and painting of the pilots. There are 2 pilots provided with the kit. They are Moonbay and Fiona.

The first thing I did was panel line both the pilots using the Tamiya Accent Panel Line (Black). This will help determine the color separation later during the painting process. The first pilot to work on is Moonbay.

Before working on the figure, it is best to do some research and have some kind of picture for references purpose. It is funny that the manual did not provide any color guide for the pilots. Here is a picture of Moonbay for reference.

The first part to be painted will be the skin. For this, I will be using the Mr. Hobby 44 Mr. Color Tan.

The other colors used for Moonbay is orange for the shirt, metallic purple and metallic yellow green for the hair tie, blue for the pants and bronze for the hair. Was suppose to get the brown color from the hobby shop but was too busy so I had to make do with what color I have in my collection.

After about an hour careful painting and lots of eye squinting, the painting of Moonbay is completed.

I am quite pleased with how it turned out. There are a few things about hand painting which needs to be improved but I think I will get there with more practice.

Just to recap, here are all the paints and markers used for the Moonbay:

With Moonbay completed, the next pilot in line is none other than "Fiona" Elisi Linette or Fiona for short. As with Moonbay, before working on the figure, some kind of picture for references purpose is required.

Here is a picture of Fiona before any was conducted on her.

Front and back of Fiona

The first work color to be painted red for her bow/hair tie. I know there are no such thing in the picture but I figured a little red won't hurt.

Next is the skin color for Fiona which is flesh. This color was first used when I tried hand painting for the first time on some pilots for a competition.

The following color will be pink for her shirt, shoes and bracelet.

With the major parts of Fiona completely painted, there are only a few minor details left like her eyes, hair and the green on her forehead. I decided to paint her eyes red.

As for the green on the forehead, I used a normal metallic green gel pen. The pen was last used on the visor for the Seven Sword.

The last part to be painted is yellow for her hair.

With the yellow done, Fiona is finally completed. Here are all the paints and markers used for the Fiona:

Less paints was used for Fiona. I was suppose to make a trip to the hobby shop to get some pink paints for her clothes but did not manage to find some time so I had to dive into my bag of markers to see what color is available and suitable.

With the pilots done, all the parts are completed. The next post will be assembling the Gustav but there will be a bit of offset time for the final assembly because I am itching to start a new kit.
